ABOUT

The Program

Art has been central to the identity of Henderson Avenue from the outset. When Mark Masinter and his team at Open Reality defined the corridor’s retail vision, he saw art as more than an amenity. It was a way to give a destination character, foster connection, and shape how a neighborhood is experienced.

That vision became Art on Henderson, launched in 2010 as a public sculpture program featuring artists from across Texas. Since its start, it has reflected a larger idea: that the spaces where people shop, dine, gather, and spend time should offer more than commerce. They should offer a sense of place. By bringing original work into the public realm, Art on Henderson has forged culturally defining connections between local artists, businesses, and the community.

Today, the Art on Henderson program returns with that same core belief: when artists thrive, communities benefit. As Henderson Avenue enters its next chapter, the initiative expands its scope. Sculpture remains a defining element, joined by murals, mixed media, site-specific installations, and ever-expanding forms of creative expression. Together, these works create a deliberate intersection of art, architecture, retail, and civic life, opening new opportunities for Texas artists while enriching the spaces around them.

For the team behind Henderson Avenue, investing in art is an investment in place. Great retail districts are defined by more than what they sell. They are shaped by what people feel, discover, and remember. By putting local artists at the center of the experience, Art on Henderson continues to cultivate a distinctive cultural identity for the avenue and the neighborhood it serves.
