Kyle Steed is a Dallas-based painter and muralist whose work moves fluidly between the intimate and the monumental. Steed's collaboration with Warby Parker begins with a shared philosophy: that commercial spaces can be both functional and deeply personal. As Creative Director Matt Singer explains, "Our stores are purposefully designed to feel familiar, yet fresh, so to add a touch of personalization, we often collaborate with local artists to create regional artwork specific to each location. We strive to put forth a distinctive visual language that includes both figurative and abstract works, to celebrate our love of art, literature, design, and of course, our love of glasses."
Steed's process mirrors this commitment to authenticity. His work follows a philosophy of deliberate iteration: sketch, stumble, step, repeat. As Steed describes it: "My process always begins on paper, and for me that's just the most honest way to start. Working through a lot of bad ideas is always what leads to the greatest, best ideas. I think we can fail our way forward. Making tangible work, connecting from my brain, through my hand to the paper, or on a wall, is the very essence of the work. There's something intrinsically human about it. I want my own hand to be known in the work."
